The
BlueSox open the 2008 season in typical fashion with a weekend on
the road. Join the Sox as they take on Dassel-Cokato under the
lights on Friday at 8PM, Cold Spring on Saturday at 6PM and St.
Michael on Sunday at 2PM. With a couple new faces and the
BlueSox mascot [pictured above] in full form, the Sox look to
take a run at the 2008 Minnesota State Amateur baseball title this
year.

The
BlueSox opened up the 2008 season still rolling from last year's
State Tournament run by downing Dassel-Cokato with dominant
pitching, timely defense and red-hot hitting. Joe Huffman
pitched 7 scoreless innings to pick up the win. Nate Johnson
and Aaron Port both picked up 3 hits while Casey Toops went 4 for 5.
"The fire is still in us to get back to the State Championship
game and you could see it as we played tonight. This is a good
way to open the season for the BlueSox", stated BlueSox manager
Josh Kunze. NEXT: BlueSox @ Cold Spring 6PM SAT. |

The
BlueSox opened up Southern Minny East play by squaring off against
cross-town rival, the Austin Greyhounds. Fans enjoyed a
pitchers duel as Joe Huffman and Dave Meyer went frame for frame
through 4 innings. The sox took an early 1-0 lead in the 5th
but that was soon erased as the Hounds put up a 9 spot in the top of
the 6th. The game became out of reach as the scoreboard ended
at 10-2. With the loss, the Sox dropped to 0-1 in league play
and look to find their usual winning ways. NEXT: BlueSox @

The bats
came alive Wednesday night at Mayo
field in Rochester as the BlueSox put up 10 runs in the final 3

win was highlighted in the 8th inning as Swank, Breslin, Swift and
Wolard went double, double, home-run, home-run respectively.
Sean Breslin pitched 7 strong innings but reliever Joe Huffman
nabbed the win with 2 shutout innings in the final frames.
With the win, the Sox move into 2nd in the Southern Minny East

Brady Banse (pictured
above) gained his first victory as a BlueSox hurler on Sunday
afternoon at Riverland baseball complex.
The BlueSox extended their winning streak to 3 games as they downed
the Blues 8-2. Banse pitched 6 strong innings while the relief
of Andy Swank and Joe Huffman closed the door from there.
Swank was also 3-4 at the plate. The game saw other BlueSox firsts
as Steve Rizzi, Jr., Dylan Monson and Pete Conway all collected
their fist hits as a BlueSox. NEXT: BlueSox

The BlueSox
came feet away from knocking off last years Class A State champs in
a game that sealed the Sox's fate Friday night. Pinch runner
Brandon Rector was thrown out at the plate trying to score on a
double by Pat Wolard to tie the game. With 2 losses in the
tourney, the Sox were ousted from the Championship round. Dan
Swift had 3 RBIs on a towering blast in the 4th to put the Sox
ahead, but Minnetonka answered back in the bottom of the frame and
went ahead for good in the 5th. The final game for the BlueSox
was cancelled due to rain. NEXT:

Fan
appreciation night turned out to be a success despite Mother Nature
trying her best to fend off the BlueSox and A's with rain.
Both teams treated the fans to a slugfest as the game saw 3
home-runs including a grand slam form Brendan McCabe of the
Athletics. Despite the A's rally, the BlueSox won the rain
shortened 5-inning game 15-7. Above: Player/Manager
Josh Kunze signs the cast of one of the honorary kid starters before
the game starts.

The BlueSox's luck in
this year's post-season has been less than fortunate as they tied
for the regular season lead but lost the coin flip and ended up
with the 3rd seed With that they faced the cross
town rival Hounds and lost 4-1.
In a second unfortunate (or Busch-league) event, the Fairbault
Lakers decided to intentionally forfeit their first round game
against the Royals but were allowed to stay in the play-offs and now
play the BlueSox in an elimination game. The BlueSox look to
take care of business Wednesday night at Marcusen; the first pitch
is scheduled for 7:30PM |
