Dan Swift (’02), already an acclaimed athlete when he
entered Mayville State, attacked both MSU and national records with his
spectacular play. Dan is perhaps the most highly heralded hitter in
Comet history. He was named All-Conference for four years, conference MVP
twice, and Most Valuable Graduating Senior. Dan was also Great
Plains Regional Player of the Year in 1998 and 1999, and received
unprecedented 1st team All- America honors in both his junior and
senior years. In 1998 and 1999, Dan hit 47 home runs and had 169 R.B.I.s.
In 1999, Dan set the NAIA career home run record of 67 and tied another
NAIA record with his two grand slam home runs in one game. He was part
of four conference championship teams, and amazingly, he was named 1st
team All-Conference at two positions in 1998 (outfielder and pitcher).
He played professional baseball in the Frontier League for two years.
